Sri Lanka was battered by severe weather conditions beginning on November 27, 2025, which intensified over three days. Torrential rainfall inundated homes, farmlands, and road networks, triggering landslides across several parts of the country.
According to the latest situation report issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC):
- 627 deaths have been confirmed.
- 209 persons are still reported missing.
- Nearly 1.5 million people (belonging to 448,817 families) have been affected.
In response to the humanitarian crisis, Lanka IOC, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), stepped forward to assist affected communities. Under the guidance of its Managing Director, the company’s CSR team organized the distribution of dry ration packs to some of the worst-hit areas, including:
- Gampaha & Ratnapura
- Kandy & Mahiyanganaya
- Trincomalee & Kurunegala
- Nuwara Eliya, Kinniya, and Dankotuwa.
Further strengthening its support, Lanka IOC donated Rs 50 million to the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” Fund under its “We Care” CSR initiative.
The ceremonial cheque was handed over to the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, by the Managing Director of Lanka IOC. The event was also attended by the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha. This contribution underscores Lanka IOC’s continued commitment to national recovery efforts and supporting communities during times of crisis.
