Lanka IOC a prominent figure among Sri Lanka oil companies slashes prices of own fuel varieties

A prominent figure among Sri Lanka oil companies and Sri Lanka’s only private oil company that operates fuel retail outlets and a key figure among Sri Lanka oil companies, Lanka IOC PLC said it was reducing the prices of two of its own fuel brands from midnight, yesterday.

Accordingly, the price of a litre of Xtra Premium Euro 3 (petrol) and Xtra Mile (diesel) was reduced by Rs.2 each.

The revised prices of Xtra Premium Euro 3 (petrol) and Xtra Mile (diesel) will be Rs.121 and Rs.97 per litre, respectively.

Sri Lanka has fixed prices for diesel and petrol but special varieties don’t come under them. The government is yet to introduce a transparent cost-reflective pricing mechanism for the fuel retailing sector.

Lanka IOC contributes Rs. 5 m to Disaster Relief Fund

Lanka IOC PLC, while sharing the grief that the country is going through, due to the inclement weather conditions that has caused large scale devastation in the country, the company contributed a sum of Rs. 5 million to the Disaster Relief Fund of the Presidential Secretariat, in order to help the affected people.

Considering the urgent need at a time of this natural calamity, as a responsible corporate citizen, the company decided to contribute towards this cause. The Employees of Lanka IOC also contributed their one day’s salary towards this worthy cause. The company wishes a speedy resettlement for the affected community.

Lanka IOC Donates an Ambulance to Medirigiriya Base Hospital Polonnaruwa

We are proud to announce that our Company, under its CSR theme “WE CARE” donated the 3rd Ambulance to the Medirigiriya Base Hospital in the Polonnaruwa District last week.

It was formally handed over by His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena and Mr. Shyam Bohra MD Lanka IOC to Dr Pramitha Ratnayake Provincial Director of Health Services, Medirigiriya, at the Presidential Secretariat Colombo on Friday, 22nd of April.2016.

Mr. Chandima Weerakkody Honorable Minister for Petroleum Resources Development and Mr. Faiszer Musthapha Honorable Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils in presence of Mr. Shyam Bohra MD Lanka IOC and other Lanka IOC officials participated in the concluding ceremony of the highly successful “English for Young Learners” project. This project was held in collaboration with Faizer Muszthapha Foundation and Cosmopolitan Learning Academy at the Tower hall Theatre Maradana recently. The program was a huge Success.

Lanka IOC initiated English classes for underprivileged children in collaboration with selected school authorities, the Cosmopolitan Learning Academy and the Faizer Muszthapha Foundation, a non-profit organisation formed by Honorable Minister Faiszer Musthapha. The Foundation’s involvement is in identifying suitable schools, while the schools Principals identify suitable children and ensures that children maintain a 100% attendance rate at the classes. The Cosmopolitan Learning Academy provides specially trained English teachers to conduct the classes. Lanka IOC funds the teachers and provides all learning materials for the children including text books, stationary and school bags. During the current financial year about 1,500 children between the ages of 6 to 15 years from underprivileged localities in the Colombo District attended the 6 to 8 month English training program which was concluded with a huge Success.

The Company acknowledging its responsibility towards the society and has in addition conducted several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives under its theme ‘WE CARE’ In addition to a series of welfare programs including assistance for elders’ homes, renovation of healthcare centre, donation of ambulances, wheelchairs, and free health camps at diverse locations in Sri Lanka.

Lanka IOC believes that education can alleviate poverty. English education is rapidly becoming important for employment and higher education in Sri Lanka. However, English teaching facilities, particularly in public schools located in underserved communities, are limited. Therefore, children from such communities face a disadvantage in accessing English education.

Lanka IOC Organises a Free Health Screening Camp for Residents of Ahangama – Galle District

Lanka IOC PLC, acknowledging its responsibility towards the society conducted several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives under its theme ‘WE CARE’ with several noble programs. In addition to a series of welfare programs including assistance for elders’ homes, renovation of healthcare centre, donation of ambulances, wheelchairs and English education for underprivileged children, Lanka IOC also organised free health camps at different locations all over the Country.

In the recent past, Lanka IOC organised health camps at Katugasthota, Ratnapura, Negombo, Dematagoda, Badulla, Vavuniya, Akurana and has now organised yet another “Free Health Screening Camp” in association with Minister Chandima Weerakkody at the Eliketiya Bimbaramaya Temple in Ahangama – Galle District. The programme began with a religious ceremony with a vow to ensure many more health screening and treatment camps for the entire Sri Lankan community and this was inaugurated by Minister Chandima Weerakkody who is the Minister for Petroleum Resources Development.

Minister Chandima Weerakkody commended Lanka IOC for the initiatives taken through the ‘WE CARE’ projects facilitated by the Company and urged that many more CSR programs needs to be conducted for the community of Sri Lanka. This initiative received a remarkable response and appreciation from all those who patronized the ‘Free Health Screening Camp’. A total of 675 people were screened at the event, in which 477 opted for an eye check-up and 198 underwent general health check-up. Amongst those who availed themselves for the check-up, 424 were recommended for bifocal spectacles whilst 11 were recommended for cataract surgeries – all treatments are provided free of charge by Lanka IOC. In the last one year more than 4200 people have undergone such health check-ups in various camps organised by Lanka IOC.

This medical camp solicited the experience of a team of 14 medical experts from “HelpAge Sri Lanka” including 02 doctors, a nurse, a pharmacist, 02 optometrists and support staff to provide a professional service to the patients. For ensuring proper diagnosis, sophisticated medical equipments were used to screen patients for diabetes, blood pressure, vision and other diseases. Wherever critical illness was diagnosed, the patients were referred to hospitals for further investigation and treatment.

MD Lanka IOC; Mr. Shyam Bohra conveyed that at Lanka IOC we believe public health is an aspect of national wealth through the creation of productive populations who have the mental and physical capacities to contribute to national development goals. Therefore, the Company supports many public health projects every year across the island, targeting underprivileged communities regardless of demographic difference.

More free medical camps are to be scheduled by Lanka IOC during the next financial Year.

Therefore, the aspect of employee welfare is given very high importance by the company. This has greatly enhanced company’s productivity and today Lanka IOC PLC is the 4th largest listed Company in Sri Lanka.

As an initiative taken by Mr. Shyam Bohra, MD Lanka IOC, a health checkup camp was organized for all employees recently with the help of a full fledged medical team from Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, a premier hospital in Sri Lanka wherein pathological tests and eye checkup was done for all employees.

Addressing the event, MD LIOC highlighted the need for all employees to stay healthy so that they can work whole heartedly and make maximum contribution in office as well as home and maintain a proper work-life balance.

Minister Haleem praised Lanka IOC for the initiatives taken through the ‘WE CARE’ projects facilitated by the Company. This initiative received a remarkable response and appreciation from all those who patronized the ‘Free Health Screening Camp’. A total of 949 people were screened at the event, in which 626 opted for an eye check-up and 323 underwent general health check-up. Amongst those who availed themselves for the check-up, 552 were recommended for bifocal spectacles whilst 69 were recommended for cataract surgeries – all treatments are provided free of charge by Lanka IOC. In the last one year more than 3500 people have undergone such health check-ups in various camps organised by Lanka IOC.

One more free medical camp is scheduled in March 2016, followed by a series of such health camps in the next financial Year.
